None of the obvious questions are asked at all, why is there a tunnel there? What is it used for? How is it that they manage to find the other end of the tunnel when they don't know for sure that is runs as far as the creek? And if Lottie was so worried about her first day why would she as a goodie two shoes climb into a tunnel and risk making herself late? She didn't go and find her friends to try to sort out the misunderstanding because she thought she would be late, however she says she actually got to class early? The author has a very strange idea of the kind of relationships that girls have. Where is this set? Where is Maradova? What time is this set? Is this our universe or a different one? SPOILERS!!! The tunnel that Lottie finds doesn't get any mention other than it's use for over hearing a conversation. There is no proper world building, detailed description is non existent, I have no clue what Rosewood is supposed to look like, and the characters are two dimensional.

However I didn't expect it to be written in such a juvenile way. I realise that this is a young adults book and I fully expected it to have a youthful style and appeal. This has to be one of the most badly written books I've ever come across.
